Troubleshooting Guide

1. Check the game's system requirements
2. Add the game's folder and files to your anti-virus program's exception/exclusion list
3. Give administrator privileges to Epic Games Launcher and the game
4. Update your Video/Graphics Drivers and Windows Operating System
5. Check your graphics driver settings
6. Check your computer power settings
7. Update your Windows Media Player codecs
8. Verify the game’s cache
9. If you are experiencing issues with game stability, please check that there are no other applications running at the same time
10. If you are experiencing issues with game stability, delete your shader cache files
11. Disable Compatibility Mode for “re9demo.exe” if enabled
12. If the above does not resolve the issue, disable the Compatibility Mode for "EpicGamesLauncher.exe"
13. If you are experiencing issues with the game display, please check your display settings
14. If the frame rate of the game is unstable, please follow the steps below to lower your settings and improve stability
15. Ensure that your PC is located in a well-ventilated area

1. Check the game’s system requirements

Please make sure you meet the minimum requirements for the game, outlined on the bottom of the Epic Games Store page; if you do not meet the minimum requirements for the game, this may result in poor framerate, or the game not running.

If you do meet the minimum specifications but not the recommended specifications, you may want to try turning down the graphics settings, if you haven't already.

Capcom does not warrant nor officially provide technical support for PCs that do not meet the official, minimum system requirements, as well as guarantee normal game operations with mobile GPUs, external GPUs, and pre-release builds of Windows OS provided via Windows Insider Program.
 

2. Add the game’s folder and files to your anti-virus program’s exception / exclusion list

Some launching issues and frame rate drops may be attributed to certain security software preventing the game executable from launching due to a false-positive error. We recommend users add all of the following files and folders to the anti-virus and firewall exclusion list to prevent this issue. If these files and folders were already added previously, try removing them from the exclusion list and re-adding them.

Note: To quickly access the following folders, press Windows Key + R then copy and paste the folder URL below.

re9.exe Default Location: 
C:\Program Files\Epic Games\ResidentEvilRequiem_Demo

EpicGamesLauncher.exe Default Location: 
C:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\Launcher\Portal\Binaries\Win64

Epic AppData Default Location:
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\EpicGamesLauncher

For a guide on adding exceptions to your anti-virus software, please contact the manufacturer or visit the official website of your anti-virus software.

3. Give administrator privileges to Epic Games Launcher and the game

Some users can get the game running properly by running EpicGamesLauncher.exe in administrator mode. This can be done by right-clicking on the .exe file and selecting “Run as administrator.” If that doesn’t work, try running the game’s .exe file in administrator mode as well.

4. Update your Video/Graphics Drivers and Windows Operating System

Try updating your video card drivers, as oftentimes outdated drivers can cause a variety of issues ranging anywhere from in-game graphical problems, to the game not starting, and more.

Additionally, please ensure that Windows Update has been run and that all the latest updates have been installed on your operating system.

If you still experience issues, you may want to try performing a clean installation of the video driver set. This will remove any extraneous driver DLL files or game profiles that existed with the previous driver installation, which may be causing the issue.

To do a clean graphics driver install, many enthusiasts use a third-party program called Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU), which completely removes components that were part of the original driver installation package.

1. Run DDU and uninstall old graphics driver.
2. Install the latest OEM graphics driver and reboot your PC.
3. Run the latest DirectX installer package and reboot your PC.

IMPORTANT! Please don't forget to reboot Windows upon completing a video driver installation. This will help reinitialize the driver and the graphics card using the new driver.

5. Check your graphics driver settings

Some high-end integrated graphics chips and modern laptop class discrete GPUs may work, but have not been tested, nor are they officially supported by Capcom. Laptops and PCs with dual GPUs, such as an integrated graphics processor + external GPU, may need additional configuration in the event the integrated processor is overriding the dedicated graphics drivers.

*Please also try resetting your driver's settings.

For details on how to reset your driver's settings or change your primary graphics card from the GPU's settings, please contact the GPU manufacturer.

If you are still experiencing issues, please try the following steps:

1. Open the Start Menu on Windows and go to Settings
2. Select System
3. From the Display tab, open the graphics settings and select the game (if it's not in the list, you can add it manually by clicking "Browse")
4. Click on Options and select "High performance"

*Please note, the actual steps may differ depending on your system environment.

6. Check your computer power settings

To change your power settings, follow these steps:

1. If using a laptop, ensure the charger is connected
2. Open Control Panel
3. Select "Power Options"
4. Select "High performance"
5. Launch the game.

If using a laptop charged via a USB-C port, please make sure that you are using a compatible USB-C cable to ensure a stable power supply to the laptop. For details about your laptop's charging port, please contact your PC manufacturer.

7. Update your Windows Media Player codecs

Certain cutscenes use video playback, which relies on Windows' default Media Player codec. 

If you're experiencing video playback issues during cutscenes, please try installing Microsoft's Media Feature pack by clicking here. Windows N and KN editions may not have Windows Media Player codec pre-installed.

8. Verify the game’s cache

Try verifying the game's cache. You can do so by following the steps outlined in this Epic Games support article (reposted below). This may find missing or damaged files that need to be repaired, even if you've just installed the game. You may also try temporarily disabling your anti-virus while verifying the cache or launching the game, as on occasion anti-virus programs may flag games or the files necessary to play them as a virus.

To verify the game’s cache, follow these steps:

1. Restart your computer.
2. Rename (or delete) the folder "ResidentEvilRequiem_Demo" in C:\Program Files\Epic Games\(default)
3. Launch the Epic Games Launcher.
4. From the Library section, right-click on the game and select Manage from the menu.
5. Select "Verify Files" and click the Verify button.

6. Epic Games Launcher will verify the game's files - this process may take several minutes. 

   Note: One or more files may fail to verify. This is normal for most games. The files that fail to verify are local configuration files that should not be replaced as part of this process. You can sagely ignore this message.

This process allows the Epic Games Launcher to scan every single file you downloaded for this game and compare that against the file data on the Epic Games server. If the file is missing or differs, there is a chance some files have either been deleted or may have been corrupted. Epic Games Launcher will automatically re-download these files.

9. If you are experiencing issues with game stability, please check that there are no other applications running at the same time

Applications that consume system resources and some software, like video recording applications and performance overlays, can compromise the game's performance and stability. If the game is suffering from performance issues, please close as many applications as possible while playing.

10. If you are experiencing issues with game stability, delete your shader cache files

As some graphical issues may be caused by damaged shader cache files, you may want to try deleting the shader cache files generated by your graphics driver and the game. For details on how to delete your shader cache files generated by your graphics driver, please contact the GPU manufacturer.

To delete the shader cache files generated by the game, delete “shader.cache”, “shader.cache2” and "pipelinelist.bin" located in the installation folder containing re9demo.exe.
  Note: You can skip this step if you don’t have these files.

11. Disable Compatibility Mode for “re9demo.exe” if enabled

To disable the compatibility mode, follow these steps:

1. Right click on “re9.exe” located in the following folder:
   • C:\Program Files\Epic Games\ResidentEvilRequiem_Demo
     *This is the default location.
2. Go to Properties
3. Open Compatibility tab
4. Untick “Run this program in compatibility mode for:”

12. If the above does not resolve the issue, disable the Compatibility Mode for "EpicGamesLauncher.exe" located in the folder below:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\Launcher\Portal\Binaries\Win64

13. If you are experiencing issues with the game display, please check your display settings

Go to the Graphics tab in the Options menu and adjust Display Mode, HDR Mode, Vertical Synchronization and Screen Resolution if you experience problems like flickering or blank screens. Display issues may also be solved by adjusting your monitor settings. Please read your monitor's manual for more information.

14. If the frame rate of the game is unstable, please follow the steps below to lower your settings and improve stability

How to lower your settings:
Change your settings to their lowest via the Options menu: GRAPHICS → Image → Quality Settings and change each of the options to "Lowest".

If you're unable to change the settings in the Options menu, reset the game and try either of the following button combinations between booting the game and the Capcom logo. This will change the graphics to their lowest settings.

1. Controller: hold down X, Y, B
2. Keyboard: hold down 7, 8, 9

15. Ensure that your PC is located in a well-ventilated area

Game operations may become unstable if your PC generates too much heat. Please place your PC in a well-ventilated area, such as by ensuring there is enough space around your PC. Also, you may be able to reduce the heat by lowering the graphics settings and limiting the frame rate.

16. Update DirectX

We recommend downloading and running the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer to ensure DirectX is fully up to date.

17. Some controller features will not function in this demo

The motion sensor function, light bar, adaptive triggers, and controller vibration (force sensitivity)n of the DualSense® wireless controller, as well as the motion sensor function and light bar of the wireless controller (DUALSHOCK®4) are not available in the demo version of the game.
