Street Fighter V requires a constant 60 frames per second (60fps) in order to run properly. Any framerate drop may result in less-than-ideal performance. While we really do hope everyone will be able to enjoy the game, there are always cases where the game may not run correctly under certain software environments, hardware combinations, or otherwise.
Please follow these steps to resolve the issue.
1. Check the game’s system requirements
Please make sure you meet the minimum requirements for the game, outlined here; if you do not meet the minimum requirements for the game, this may result in poor framerate, or the game not running. Please note that some high end integrated graphics chips and modern laptop class discrete GPUs may work, but have not been tested, nor are they officially supported by Capcom.
If you’re using a multi-GPU setup such as NVIDIA’s SLI or ATI’s Crossfire technologies, we recommend experimenting with disabling these settings, as they may cause compatibility issues with the game. You can also try lowering the graphics settings within the game’s Options menu.
If you are using a laptop with a dedicated graphics card, we recommend disabling your integrated graphics via the BIOS settings prior to launching Street Fighter V. For more information on accessing your BIOS, please see your laptop/motherboard manufacturer manual.
2. Add Street Fighter V’s files and folders to your anti-virus software’s exception list
Some performance issues with Street Fighter V may be attributed to certain Anti-Virus software interfering with the game. We recommend users add all of the following files and folders to the Anti-virus and Firewall exclusion list to prevent this issue. If these files and folders were already added previously, try removing them from the exclusion list and re-adding them.
To quickly access the following folders, press Windows Key + R then copy and paste the folder URL below.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\StreetFighterV
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\StreetFighterV\StreetFighterV\Binaries\Win64
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\StreetFighterV\StreetFighterV.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\StreetFighterV\StreetFighterV\Binaries\Win64\StreetFighterV.exe
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\StreetFighterV
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Steam
For a guide on adding exceptions to your anti-virus software, please visit one of the following links:
-
Avast Antivirus (please ensure you are using both General Exclusions and File Exclusions)
*Please note for Bitdefender, you will need to also add the two StreetFighterV.exe files to the program’s Whitelist:
-
Open Bitdefender
-
Go to the Protection tab
-
Click “View Feature”
-
Click the gear icon inside the “Advanced Thread Defense” box
-
Select “Add applications to the whitelist”
-
Browse and navigate to the following two StreetFighterV.exe files:
-
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\StreetFighterV
-
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\StreetFighterV\StreetFighterV\Binaries\Win64
-
-
Once both StreetFighterV.exe files are added, close Bitdefender and relaunch the game
3. Give Administrator Privileges to Street Fighter V
Some users can get the game running properly by running Steam.exe in administrator mode. This can be done by right-clicking on the .exe file and selecting “Run as administrator.” If this doesn’t work, try running StreetFighterV.exe in administrator mode, as well.
4. Update your Video/Graphics Drivers and Windows Operating System
There are additional steps we can recommend trying. Try updating your video card drivers, as oftentimes outdated drivers can cause a variety of issues ranging anywhere from in-game graphical problems, to the game not starting, and more.
For the latest Nvidia drivers, click here.
For the latest AMD drivers, click here.
Additionally, please ensure that Windows Update has been run from the Control Panel and that all the latest updates have been installed on your system.
If you still experience issues, you may want to try performing a clean installation of the video driver set. This will remove any extraneous driver DLL files or game profiles that existed with the previous driver installation.
To do a clean video driver install, many enthusiasts use a third-party program called Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU), which completely removes components that were part of the original driver installation package.
-
Run DDU and uninstall old video driver.
-
Install the latest OEM video card driver and reboot your PC.
-
Run the latest DirectX installer package and reboot your PC.
-
Launch Steam and Street Fighter V.
5. Ensure VSync is enabled for Street Fighter V
VSync (Vertical Synchronization) helps ensure a constant 60 FPS for Street Fighter V and prevents screen-tearing. VSync is enabled for Street Fighter V by default, however, if you have manually turned off Street Fighter V’s configuration files, please set VSync back to “ON” before running the game.
If using Nvidia graphics, open Nvidia Control Panel and ensure that the VSync option is not set to “Adaptive VSync”, as this feature will restrict Street Fighter V to 30 FPS in the event it cannot run at a constant 60 FPS.
6. Check your graphics driver settings & computer power settings
To reiterate, some high end integrated graphics chips and modern laptop class discrete GPUs may work, but have not been tested, nor are they officially supported by Capcom. Laptops with dual GPUs, such as an Intel Integrated Graphics Processor and Nvidia Dedicated Graphics Card, may need additional configuration in the event the integrated processor is overriding the dedicated graphics drivers.
If using a dual Nvidia / Intel GPU, follow these steps:
-
Install the latest Intel integrated drivers
-
Reboot your PC
-
Open Nvidia Control Panel
-
Click 'Manage 3D Settings'
-
Go to 'Program Settings' and then Select 'Street Fighter V' (if it is not in the list you can add it manually by clicking 'Add')
-
Scroll down to 'Power Management Mode'
-
Set it to 'Prefer Maximum Performance' / ‘High Performance Processor’ instead of 'Adaptive'
-
Close Nvidia Control Panel and launch Street Fighter V
If using a dual AMD “Switchable Graphics” GPU, follow these steps:
-
Open AMD Catalyst Control Center
-
Under “Switchable Graphics”, select the High Performance section and select
-
Click ‘Apply’
-
Close AMD Catalyst Control Center and launch Street Fighter V
Additionally, double-check your desktop / laptop’s power settings by performing the following:
-
If using a laptop, ensure the charger is connected
-
Open Control Panel
-
Select Power Options
-
Select “Change Plan Settings”
-
Select “Change advanced power settings”
-
From within the dropdown menu, select “High performance” and click ‘Apply’ then ‘OK’
-
Launch Street Fighter V
7. Reinstall DirectX and the Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable Package (x86 & x64)
Reinstalling the game’s DirectX and Visual C++ Redistributable files may also help resolve the problem. The installers for these files are located in the following locations:
DXSETUP.exe:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\StreetFighterV\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010
vcredist_x86.exe & vcredist_x64.exe:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\StreetFighterV\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2013
8. Verify the game’s cache in Steam
If this doesn't work, the next step is to verify the game's cache in Steam. You can do so by following the steps outlined in this Steam support article. This may find missing or damaged files that need to be repaired, even if you've just installed the game. You may also try temporarily disabling your anti-virus while verifying the cache, as on occasion anti-virus programs may flag games or the files necessary to play them as a virus.
9. Remove any mods from the Street Fighter V folder
If you have previously installed a mod for Street Fighter V, please remove any and all mod files from Street Fighter V’s installation folders, and re-verify the game’s cache in Steam.
Please note that Capcom does not condone modding in Street Fighter V and cannot guarantee proper functionality after a mod has been installed.
10. Raise CPU Priority to “High” and uncheck the ‘0’ core in Task Manager
Try the following CPU settings while Street Fighter V is running.
-
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to open the Task Manager
-
Select the “Processes” tab and right-click on StreetFighterV.exe
-
Select “Set Priority” followed by “High”
-
Select "Set Affinity" and then uncheck the '0' core
-
Go back into Street Fighter V’s window without restarting / exiting the game
11. Check your Ethernet adapter settings
If there are any extra network connections shown on your computer; ensure that only the “Primary” connection is enabled. To do this, bring up the Network and Sharing Center from the Control Panel, then click on “Change adapter settings”.
If there are multiple connections shown here, try disabling all except the primary connection, or alternatively, highlight all of the connections, right-click and then select “Bridge Connections”. Then relaunch Street Fighter V.
12. Shut down background applications that may interfere with the game
Some software may cause conflicts with Street Fighter V that can cause performance hiccups, especially for PCs that only meet the minimum requirements for the game. Try shutting down or disabling the following software if they are currently running, and then relaunch Street Fighter V:
-
VPN software and virtual network adapters such as Tunngle or Hamachi
-
Other game-related clients such as Battle.net, Origin or uPlay
-
Skype
-
Game Capture Software (such as elgato Game Capture HD, Xsplit, OBS Studio)
-
Windows Aero (if using Windows 7)
13. Check your video cables / TV / monitor settings
If using an HDMI cable for your TV or monitor, try using another HDMI cable or HDMI port to see if that resolves the issue. Some manufactured HDMI cables or HDMI ports may not support the desired 60Hz (Hertz) refresh rate for Street Fighter V. As a result, these cables / monitors will run in 30Hz and cause low framerate in Street Fighter V. If switching HDMI cables / ports and/or DisplayPort cables / ports does not resolve the issue, and you are using a monitor with a resolution higher than 1920x1080, reduce the in-game resolution to 1920x1080 within the Options menu.
