Error 5038f-MW1 occurs when the player-to-player (P2P) connection between two players cannot be established and a time-out occurs. If there is no issue with the user’s network environment, the issue may be caused by a temporary outage of the network or an issue with the other player’s network environment.
This issue can be resolved by ensuring all players trying to connect have forwarded the correct ports to their router for Monster Hunter: World.
For a handy guide to port-forwarding, please click this link. Please also contact your Internet Service Provider to ensure they are not blocking any of the following ports.

If port-forwarding for all users doesn’t resolve the issue, and the time-out occurs only with a specific user and both or one of the users is using WiFi, please have the user and yourself try the following:
- If using WiFi, try changing the router’s wireless channel
- Keep objects that cause radio interference such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, etc. away from the router and your console
- Adjust your console’s distance to the router
- Alternatively, switch to a wired Ethernet connection for optimal connectivity
